When are the Oscars 2025? Date, hosts and how to watch

The Oscars are fast-approaching and it has certainly been an exciting year in film.

A year of unexpected comebacks, sweeping blockbusters, gripping indies and crowd-pleasing musicals. But who will take home Hollywood’s biggest prizes? And, perhaps more importantly when are the Oscars, anyway?

When are the Oscars?

Mark your calendars, because the Oscars are due to kick off on 3 March 2025 at 7 pm EST — that’s 12 am GMT for all you night owls who plan on staying up and watching the ceremony live.

Where can you watch the Oscars?

The best way to tune into the Oscars is on ITV1 or online on ITVX where Jonathan Ross will, once again, host a live show starting at 10:30pm before the ceremony is live streamed from Hollywood.

Who is hosting the Oscars?

Conan O’Brian is set to host the awards ceremony for the first time after last year saw fellow late night host Jimmy Kimmel take on the hosting gig.

When will the Oscar nominations be announced?

Due to the devastating fires in Los Angeles, the announcement of the Oscar nominations for 2025 has been pushed back from January 17 to January 19.

Who are the big award contenders?

This year, the Oscars race is set to be a tight one, with tough competition in many categories. In the best picture race, we’re expecting to see films like Emilia Pérez, Wicked, Conclave, The Brutalist, Dune: Part Two and Anora all likely to receive nods.

The acting awards are also likely to be stacked with big names. In the Best Actress category, Demi Moore is expected to receive her first nomination after she took home the Golden Globe for her role in The Substance. Angelina Jolie is also a frontrunner for her spectacular performance in Maria. Nicole Kidman, who starred in psychosexual thriller Babygirl and newcomer Mikey Madison, who played a disillusioned sex worker in Anora, are also frontrunners. Finally, Cynthia Erivo might also receive a nod for Wicked.

As for the Best Supporting Actress category, contenders include Ariana Grande for Wicked, Margaret Qualley for The Substance, Selena Gomez for Emilia Pérez, Zoë Saldaña for Emilia Pérez and Isabella Rossellini for Conclave are predicted to receive nods.
