Use a roller shade as a photo backdrop

After reading Michael Pekovich’s article “A Woodworker’s Guide to Photography” (FWW #213), I was ready to photograph some tool chests I had built. Rather than buy a professional seamless backdrop, however, I used a large white plastic shade, roughly 6 ft. by 6 ft., the kind that comes on a wood roller. I mounted it on a board, and it created a perfect backdrop—for less money than the pro model would have cost me.
