Tate McRae’s Two-Step Hack for Weightless Foundation

Tate McRae’s Two-Step Hack for Weightless Foundation

When you think of a performer who commands the stage like Tate McRae, you might assume she wears a long-lasting foundation that’s completely budge-proof during her high-energy performances. But in a new video documenting her beauty routine for Allure, the 21-year-old “Greedy” singer revealed that she actually keeps her base makeup surprisingly natural—even on stage.

“I actually have been seeing this all over the internet recently, where people take moisturizer and they mix it with their foundation,” she told viewers, adding that she recently tried the trend herself and has been loving the results.

In the video, McRae shares that she mixes Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel ($20) with Clinique Even Better Clinical Serum Foundation ($48), which is her trick for keeping her foundation feeling lightweight. (She admits she “hates” the feeling of heavy makeup.) As seen in the clip, she pumps a bit of moisturizer onto the back of her hand, adds a touch of foundation, and blends the two before lightly applying the mix to her skin with a makeup brush. The result is a natural her-skin-but-better finish.

“Usually, I keep it very natural on the foundation,” she continued. “I don’t like to do too much, especially because when I get on stage or go throughout the day, I am doing a lot, being active, dancing, or working out, so I don’t like to clog my skin.” It’s no surprise that her go-to formulas complement each other so well. The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Moisturizer is a lightweight water-gel formula that absorbs quickly, while the Clinique foundation, though capable of full coverage, is buildable and weightless on the skin.
