Fine Woodworking Build Challenge – FineWoodworking

FWW Build Challenge is back! This is the first time we’ve announced this on the website: in February, Ben Strano and I decided to start a bi-monthly build challenge to bring the Discord community together and get creative juices flowing. The first month was pencil boxes, then we chose to switch to bi-monthly challenges that gave more time for everyone to participate. March and April was all about sharpening. In the two months the goal was to get one tool very sharp, and then make something that helped you get sharp. We had some great submissions for the first two challenges, and want to open the opportunity up to you. We gather on Zoom, after the challenge is completed, to look at your builds. We brought Michael Cullen on as a guest for our first meeting. Keep an eye out on Discord for our next special guest.

During May and June, we are teaming up with Owen Madden, a Fine Woodworking ambassador who runs The Woodworkers Book Club. It has been great resource for woodworking material, and once a month the club meets on Zoom to discuss the book of the month, often joined by special guests. Last month Mike Pekovich discussed “The Why & How of Woodworking: A Simple Approach to Making Meaningful Work”.

Participating this month is simple: share your three favorite woodworking books, articles, media, etc. to our designated discord channel (link in comments for an invitation to both the FWW discord, as well as The Woodworkers Book Club. The build prompt for June will be making something that holds or houses your favorite woodworking material: bookshelves, boxes, USB drive holder, bookends, Ben even suggested a fancy clipboard! Feel free to use your creativity here, as always.

We will be doing a drawing at the end of June and will be giving away four prizes: The Woodworkers Book Clubs’ Book of the Month for May and June as well as two FWW digital memberships.
