How to Copy Amanda Seyfried’s Berry Lips This Spring

How to Copy Amanda Seyfried’s Berry Lips This Spring

While Amanda Seyfried is a full-on fairy princess with a penchant for loose waves in real life, she’s playing a full-on uniformed, slicked-back bun wearing police officer in her latest show. Crazy, I know—but we were already well aware that the woman has range. Even if she’s humble about it.

“Amanda wants to feel naturally beautiful with no pretense always,” the 39-year-old’s makeup artist, Genevieve Herr, tells Byrdie. Easy… when you’re naturally beautiful. But it’s fun to hear about someone who doesn’t care for pretense preps for such a glam job, isn’t it?

Ahead of the March 13 release of Peacock’s Long Bright River—it’s based on the book of the same name by Liz Moore—Seyfried walked the red carpet for the show’s New York premiere. Dressed in the cutest glimmering gold Marc Jacobs mini dress, she chose to lean more into her natural fairy princess persona for the evening with a face full of Lancôme products—and Herr gave Byrdie all the exclusive info on how they made it happen.

Fairy princess or berry princess? Berry lips are one of Herr’s favorite spring trends. They’re everyone’s, honestly.

“Amanda was wearing a very sharp and sparkly Marc Jacobs mini dress—I wanted to balance the strength of it with a fresh bare eye and a statement lip,” the artist explains. “Berry shades are perfection to set off the gold.”

When working on a celebrity’s pout, Herr always has a lip liner on hand to shape, contour, and keep lipstick from bleeding.

“I used Lip Idôle Lip Shaper, these beautiful new lipliners are creamy, soft and very bendable,” she explains. This time around, the color of choice was #60: Million-Dollar Berry. And that perfect lipstick? That would be L’Absolu Rouge Drama Matte Lipstick in #399, Haute Pink.

Amanda Seyfried’s Red-Carpet Skin

Let’s wind back for a second. Before anything else, skincare was—as it always is!—a necessity.

“The first step is always to moisturize your skin, followed by a primer, which is essential for preparing the skin and keeping makeup fresh and hydrated,” Herr explains. “I always use a damp sponge to apply foundation, as it allows for a more even and natural finish. It’s also important to blend well to achieve a seamless look.”

Skin was sort of the last step, too. “I supplied her with matting papers to use on the T-zone if needed,” said Herr about the final moments before Seyfried stepped out on the carpet. That, and the lipstick to reapply if necessary.

Another key product? Mascara. Two mascaras, actually. Lash Idôle Mascara was first, applied as a first coat after curling the actress’s lashes to keep that curl in place. Then, Herr applied a second coat of mascara using Lash Idôle Flutter Extension Lengthening Mascara to elongate.

And that was that. The star was onto the red carpet to inspire our own makeup looks—and TV watching habits—all season long.
